A new Specimen Paper

Happy, happy, happy news.

Coming very soon…

this week, on Amazon.

This is the teaching resource that ALL IBDP Psychology teachers have been asking for: a new/up-to-date Specimen Paper.

Happy, happy, happy news
  1. A complete exam (Papers 1, 2 & 3)
  2. A markscheme that blends expected answers and assessment criteria, with explanations of mark allocations,
  3. Suggested writing frames / templates for each question,
  4. Two sample answers for every question (one high scoring and one low sciring, with clear, detailed explanations for the marks).

As teachers plan for the first exams of the new IB Diploma Psychology course, one of the biggest challenges is clear: what will the new exams look like and how will they be marked?

With the updated December 2025 Subject Guide, many teachers are looking for an updated Specimen Paper.

To support colleagues preparing for the May 2027 examinations, I’ve created a new 80-page IB Psychology Specimen Paper resource that offers a complete, practical guide to the new exams. At its core is a full mock examination covering Papers 1, 2 and 3, for both SL and HL students. This provides teachers with a ready-to-use mock exam that reflects the expectations of the new course.

The resource goes beyond simply providing exam questions. It also includes a detailed markscheme based directly on the assessment criteria in the December 2025 Subject Guide, helping teachers see clearly how responses will be evaluated under the new framework. For each question, I’ve also included suggested writing frames / answer templates that teachers can use to guide students as they develop strong exam responses.

One of the most valuable features of the resource is the inclusion of two sample answers for every question: one high-scoring response and one low-scoring response. Each sample is accompanied by a clear and detailed explanation of why it achieves its mark level, allowing teachers and students to see exactly what distinguishes strong answers from weaker ones. These comparisons are extremely helpful for teaching exam technique and helping students understand assessment expectations.

This resource has been carefully developed based on many years of experience as both an IB Psychology examiner and teacher, alongside feedback from several experienced colleagues. It is also grounded in a detailed reading of the new Subject Guide and Teacher Support Material, ensuring that the exam format, marking approach, and sample responses closely reflect the new course.

My goal in creating this Specimen Paper was simple: to give teachers a resource that will genuinely make preparation easier. By working through this material, teachers will not only have a complete and reliable mock exam for their students, but also gain the clarity and confidence needed to prepare students effectively for the May 2027 examinations.

And now teachers can relax… this Specimen Paper takes ALL of the mystery and guesswork out of the new exams.
